Information products are products that teach and show people how to accomplish or achieve a particular result.For instance,an information product could teach you how to loose weight,how to make money online,how to become a professional golfer,e.t.c

Forums: A forum is a place where people having the same interests and passions hang out together to discuss with each other. In a forum, there are always the advanced members or experts, the intermediate members as well as the junior members as well as a moderator. This of course also depends on the type of forum as well as the forum software.
Basically, any member of the forum can post a question about a topic he would like to get an answer to and any member of the forum can answer it as long as he knows it. At the end of each post or after answering a question, the person can include his signature file (known as a sig file for short).A sig file simply contains some information about the person that made the post and a link to his or her site. 7.Forums:This is another effective method of driving targeted traffic to your website.Basically,you join a forum and then you can begin to ask questions from other members of the forum and to also answer questions posted by other members of the forum.At the end of every post,most forums will allow to place a link to your website.This is known as a signature.You are however not allowed to blatantly advertise your products andd services as this could even get you banned from the forum with speed.Always read the forum rules before you join a forum.

8.Blog and ping:This refers to the process of bloogging normally and then pinging the blogging directories.The ping informs the blog directories that you have just updated your blog and that they should update the contents of your blog in their index.You can start a blog for free and some of the free blog service providers include Blogger,Wordpress and Nucleus CMS,which is open source.Others include Movable Type,Typepad and Xanga.Blog directories that you can ping after making a new post to your blog include:

In this post,we shall be looking at the methods of driving targeted traffic to your website.I listed some of them in the last post but in this one,I shall be expanding on them one by one.So lets go.

1.Writing articles:This is one of the best methods of driving targeted traffic to your website.Basically,what you do is to write an informative article that will be of value to your readers.You can write an "How to" article,a "Tips" article or an article about something that is related to your website or business.At the bottom of the article,you are allowed by article directories and article submission sites to put what is called a bio,byline or resource box.This bio or resource box is what will actually bring in the targeted traffic to your website.It is must be a maximum of five to six lines and in it you tell the reader a little bit about yourself and your website and include your website address.You could even offer them a free ebook.Most people send the reader to a name squeeze page where the reader will be required to fill in her name and email address.Upon confirming her interest in signing up for the ebook,newsletter or whatever it may be,she is sent a welcome message and the link to the ebook or the first issue of the newsletter.By doing this,you have successfully been able to capture the name and email address of a person(now a subscriber) that you can send your product offers,reviews and recommendations to from time to time.

2.Permission or Email marketing:I have mentioned this somehow in the first point above.Basically,here your aim is to make a person give you permission to contact her through her email address.You can do this by making the person sign up to your autoresponder to receive an ecourse series,a free ebook,a free software,tips or anything that would be of value to the person.By signing up like this,the person is giving you permission to send you emails and from time to time,you can send the subscriber product offers.Its always best however to give the subscriber valuable content first and to avoid bombarding her with product offers all the time.This could lead to the person unsubscribing.First build up your credibility by offering them valuable content.If you are able to do this,you will have no problem getting them to buy your products.They will also trust you that in the sense that since you are making a product review or recommendation to them,then you must have used the product and found it to be good.So you will be able to market your products,your affiliate products and whatever you may be selling to them with ease.

3.Joint Ventures:These are partnerships between two or more people for the mutual benefit of all the parties involved.An example is a co registration list.For example,if you are a newbie in internet marketing with no opt in subscribers,you could do a JV with a top gun who would advertise,recommend and market your product to his subscribers.You would have agreed before the top gun does this for you on the percentage that he would get from the deal.Usually,you will have to make his perceentage high and even higher than yours for him to agree to do this for you,sometimes as much as 60-70%.But it's still better than nothing.JV's are not limited just to the marketing of products.It could also be used to increase one's number of subscribers.This has been happening in the internet marketing world a lot very lately and how it is done is that many different internet marketers contribute an ebook to a website and to receive this free ebook,you have to fill in your name and email address to each contributors opt in form whose ebook you are interested in receiving.Examples include "15 days of summer" and "Give aways in one place".You can use JV's for anything.You are only limited by your imagination.

4.Ezines:An ezine is an online newsletter or magazine.You can get people to sign up to receive your ezine.All you have to do is type them and load them into your autoresponder.You could send your ezine out everyday,once a week,once a month or whichever way you want to do it.Since people that sign up for your ezine are interested in what you have to say,you can use this to your advantage.You can send your ezine as an email or you could send a link to it through your email to your website where it is hosted.Some people also offer their ezine as a pdf download.I will go into more details on how to get people to sign up for your ezine,autoresponder series,free ebook and others later.

5.Viral marketing:This is simply a method of getting word out about your product,service,website or anything out in such a way that the rate at which people get to know about it becomes viral.It is called viral because like a cough or virus,once some people get to know about it,other people will get to know about it very quickly as well and this will generate no cost traffic for you.For example,lets assume that you give away a free ebook on your website.Suppose one peson subscribes to receive the free ebook and gives it to ten of his friends.That means that eleven people now know about your website.Lets further suppose that those ten people each give away the free ebook to ten of their friends.That means that one hundred more people now know about your website and altogether,one hundred and two people.The chain continues to grow this way,all at no cost to you.This is viral marketing.There are scripts that are available that allows a person to subscribe to your website and also subscribe for his friends.And the trend continues like this.Viral marketing was used by MSN when they first started to get people to know about their free email service.It is also being used today by social networking websites like Myspace,Hi5 and Ringo. Infact,this is the reason why some people write ebooks,give them away for free and also allow and encourage those that receive them to give them away for free.Of course,the free ebook will contain links to your website.

6.Affiliate programs:You can get lots of free targeted traffic to your website by starting your own affiliate program.This is so because your affiiates will do the advertising and promotion and the targeted traffic will come to your website to buy your products.Even though the products are been bought through their affiliate link and not directly from your website,they are still making sales for you at no cost to you.This is a win win both for you as the affiliate program owner and also for the affiliate,who gets paid some amount as commission on every product that is sold.As effective as this method is however,it is not for newbies and people that are inexperienced in website advertising ,promotion and internet marketing.

In this post,we shall be exploring the various methods of driving targeted traffic to your website.Just as a way of reminder,targeted traffic refers to people that go to or visit your website for the purpose of buying your products.It is called targeted because the people are there to make a purchase and not just to look around.Let us begin with the methods that do not work:

1.FREE FOR ALL (FFA ) PAGES:These are websites where people post different advertisements for their products and services free of charge.When a new advertisement is posted,the one before it goes down one step and so do all the others that are underneath it.This means that with time,some posts will not even be seen at all because they would have moved to the next page.Apart from this,when you sign up to an FFA page,you usually have to fill in your email address.As a result,you are bombarded with advertisements.It is always better not to advertise through an FFA page.

2.Free Classified Ad's sites:These are also not effective,if at all they still work.Here,you also post your advertisements on a website.It hardly works in bringing in targeted traffic and sales.The paid option,called a solo ad and also the sponsor ad,however do work and shall be considered.

3.Unsolicited Commercial Email:This is popularly known as spam.Spam refers to unsolicited email that you receive,most times from sources that you do not know.It could be an advertisement,a scam or any other type of message.With the introduction of the CAN SPAM Act,it is now illegal for you to do any type of activity online using spam.If you are reported,you could be shut down by your ISP and even jailed.Be warned!

4.Banner ads:Although once effective,these are fast becoming ineffective.A banner ad is simply an graphic advertisement placed anywhere on a webpage-on the top,by the side,or at the bottom.Because many people placed banner ad's all over their website,they have become ineffective.If at all you will use it,limit it to one or two.

THINGS YOU WILL NEED AS AN AFFILIATE MARKETER

Today,we will be considering some of the things you will be needing as an affiliate marketer.Here are some of them:
1.A domain name:We have already considered the fact that you must have your own website.A domain name simply refers to the name of your website.It is also known as URL or Universal resource locator.This is what people will type into a search engine or browser that will take them to your website.For example, www.yourdomainname.com is an example of a domain name.To have your domain name,you must register it.This is to ensure that it is still available and that it isn't in use by some other person.A place where you can register one is Go Daddy.

2.A webhost:This is responsible for storing your website on their servers hard disk.It is from here that people are able to access your website.You can develop your website offline but it must be uploaded to your webhosts computer for it to be accessible globally.You must go for a webhost that provides you with many features such as unlimited autoresponders,unlimited webmails,high bandwidth,large storage space and others.Three webhosts that I can recommend are Site Build It,Third Sphere and Host4profit.

3.Autoresponders:An autoresponder is like a virtual secretary.Basically,this is how it works:
You write your messages such as your newsletter series and load them into your autoresponder.You then schedule the time that you want the autoresponder to send out the message.For instance,the autoresponder could send a welcome message when a person subscribes to your ezine,then you can schedule it to send the first newsletter issue three days later,the second could be sent four days after that and so on.You can also use an autoresponder to redirect a person to your sales page or any other page on your website after subscribing.By using an autoresponder,you are able to save a lot of time and automate your online business.There are different types of autoresponders:
i.Basic autoresponders
ii.Sequential autoresponders
iii.Autoresponder scripts
iv.Autoresponder services
The one you will be needing are the autoresponder services.I will not explain the first three since you do not need them.Basically,an autoresponder service is provided by a company and you pay them a monthly bill per month.There are many companies that provide such services.I personally recommend Aweber,Getresponse and Email Aces.

iv.A blog:Blog is short for web log and it is simply an online journal or diary.A blog is constantly updated and this is the reason why search engines love them.As an affiliate marketer,you can provide high quality content and weave in product reviews and recommendations.You can also place a link to your website on your blog and when the search engines come visiting,they will follow the link and visit your website as well,and index it.This is one way to get your website spidered and indexed.

v.Your own list of opt-in subscribers:It is usually said online that " the money is in the list".You must have your own list of subscribers that you have a relatonship with and that you can provide product reviews and recommendations to from time to time.The way this is done is by giving away a freebie such as a free ebook,a software or anything that has a high perceived value in exchange for the persons name and email address.This way,you can follow up on the person.I will cover this in detail later.

WHAT ARE THE WAYS OF DRIVING TARGETED TRAFFIC TO AN AFFILIATE WEBSITE?
Before I go into the different methods of driving targeted traffic to an affiliate website,I will like to explain something first.Even though you are given a free affiliate website for every affiliate program that you join,you must know upfront that it is not easy to promote an affiliate website.So before we go into the main topic for today,let us consider this sub topic:

WHY CAN I NOT PROMOTE /ADVERTISE AN AFFILIATE WEBSITE
1.Affiliate websites are mainly static pages.That means that they hardly change.They always have the same information on them and this is how it is for every affiliate.And because search engines love fresh content and authority sites,they will not index such pages.This makes you to lose out on free traffic that you could have gotten from search engines through organic search.

2.Most free and even paid submission sites such as article submission sites,search engines,directories,forums,message boards,press release sites,online communities and others do not allow for the submission of affiliate links.It is generally seen as blatant advertising and is not allowed.Your membership of a forum,for example,could be terminated if you submit an affiliate link.Always read the terms and conditions before you post a message.

3.You do not have control over an affiliate website including the ability to upload something such as an autoresponder script or a name squeeze page(all these terms will be explained later).That means that even if you are able to drive some amount of traffic to the website and some people actually buy some products on their first visit,you will still lose out on those that did not buy anything and they may never even come back.

4.You are not seen as a professional if you are directly promoting your affiliate website.If you check out all the big names in affiliate programs(most of whom have their own affiliate programs) like Marlon Sanders,Stone Evans,Micheal Fortin,David Garfinkel,Rudl Corey,Yanik Silver and a host of others,you’ll discover that they all have their own websites.It is through these websites that they advertise and promote affiliate products.I will also cover this in detail later.

5. Commission theft:This refers to a situation whereby your affiliate link is replaced by that of another affiliate.For instance,if you post an advertisement for a product with your affiliate link in an FFA(free for all) or classified ads site,some other affiliate could see it and chop off your affiliate id,replacing it with his.Thereby every sale you would have made will be credited to his account,while you make no sales.

6.Most affiliate links are long and ugly thereby making them difficult to remember.This puts some people off.Also,affiliate links are not search engine friendly because search engines "think" they are for databases.

7.Some people are also put off by the fact that someone will earn some commission on their payment.Some will even go ahead to join the affiliate program,thereby making the person that referred them to lose his commission and but it at a discount through their own link.

These are just some reasons why you cannot promote an affiliate link.The summary of it all is that you must have your own website.In the next post,we shall be looking at some of the things you will be needing to ensure your success as an affiliate.All of this must be covered before we go into methods of driving targeted traffic to your website.

WHAT CRITERIA SHOULD YOU CONSIDER BEFORE JOINING AN AFFILIATE PROGRAM?

Even though there are so many affiliate programs online and there is no limit to the number of affiliate programs that you can join(as long as you can promote them all),there are still some factors that you should consider before going ahead to join an affiliate program.Some of them are listed below:

1.Is the affiliate program a credible one?
You must find out if the affiliate program is credible.There have been instances where commission checks are sent to affiliates late or not even sent at all. Just go to Google and type in the name of the affiliate program.You can also check on the website for testimonies of present affiliates.

2.What is their commission rate?
You must find out the commission rate that the affiliate program pays it’s affiliates.Generally,most affiliate programs pay their affiliates 50% and above.Some also pay you depending on the price of the product and it may not be a 50% commission rate.You can’t afford to promote programs that pay you a measly 10% or programs that pay you $5 per sale.At that rate,when will you make a head way?

3.How often does the affiliate program pay it’s affiliates?
You must also find out how often the affiliate program pays it’s affiliates.Most affiliate programs pay only once a month.Some others like Clickbank pay once every two weeks which is twice a month.Whichever way,you must find out.

4.What is the means of payment?
Different affiliate programs pay in different ways.Some pay through Paypal(in this case,you must have a Paypal account with which you will be given a Paypal email address),check(sent through the mail) or a direct deposit paid directly into your checking account.There are still other means of payments though.Find out which one applies to your’s.Most affiliate programs however pay by mailing you a check.

5.What are their terms and conditions?
You must always read the terms and conditions of every affiliate program before you join.This will enable you to know the things that they support and those that they do not.

6.What tools and resources are provided for their affiliates
Most affiliate programs will provide you with promotional materials such as banners,text ads,graphics,articles,free ebooks and other materials that will make promoting their products easy.You can make use of them when marketing to your prospects.

You must try to learn as much as you can about the affiliate program before you join.

What are affiliate programs?

An affiliate program,also known as a Reseller program or an Associate program,is simply a program in which an individual signs up as an affilite for a company,known as a merchant,to promote it's products and services.When a person signs up to be an affilite for a merchant,he/she is usually given an affilite website which is actually a copy of the merchants website but with some tracking device to make it unique to that particular affiliate.
When a person buys a product through that affiliate link,through the affiliate's id,the affiliate management software will know the affiliate through which the sale was made and credit the person.Let me explain this better.

For each product that you sell or promote,you are paid a certain percentage as commission.Most affiliate programs pay upwards of 50%.Some even pay as much as 75%.So essentially,you are paid by the merchant when you make a sale for them.This is called pay for performance.
What this means is that if you make no sale,you are not paid at all.
There are many companies that will pay you as their affiliate.Some of them include:
1.Internet Marketing Center:This is owned by Corey Rudl.They have a range of products and it is a 2-tier affiliate program.
2.Strong Future International:This is also a good affiliate program but you must advance to an Executive Affiliate at the end of each month.It is not for those that are new to affiliate programs and do not know how to drive targeted traffic to their website.
3.Site Build It:Their affiliate program is called "5 Pillar Affiliate Program".You are provided with tons of free ebooks and resources that will enable you to start making money.
4.Cafepress:They allow you to "shop,sell or create what's on your mind".They have over 35 million products.
5.Surefire Marketing Group:This is owned by Yanik Silver who is a well known copywriter.It has a wide range of products that you can promote.
These are just some of the many affiliate programs that are available online.You can go to any search engine and type in "Affiliate programs" to get some more.

SOME TERMS YOU NEED TO KNOW
1.Affiliate:This is the person that signs up with a company to promote their products.
2.Merchant:This is the company that an affiliate signs up with to promote their products
3.CommissionThis is the amount you are paid for the sale of products from your affiliate website.
4.Affiliate ID:Your affiliate ID is always embedded in your affiliate Url.For example,consider the URL(universal resource locator,otherwise called the website address) given below:
www.someaffiliateprogramname.com/563428
"someaffiliateprogramname" is the name of the affilite program while "563428" is the affiliate ID.It is assigned to every person that signs up as an affiliate and it is used to track the affiliate website through which a sale was made.This enables the merchant to know the affiliate that made the sale and pay him his commission accordinly.Some affiliate ID's are actually much longer than this such as:
www.someaffiliateprogramname.com/cgi-bin/?=563428
Whichever way,you understand what I am saying.
5.Sub affiliate:These are your own affiliates.They are people that join the program by signing up through your affiliate link.You are paid a certain percentage as commission on sales that they make.
6.2-tier affiliate programs:These are affiliate programs that pay you for sales that you make as well as for sales that are made by your affiliates.
7.Multi-tier affiliate programs:These are affiliate programs that pay you for sales that you make,sales made by your affiliates,sales made by your affiliates affiliates(known as your sub affiliates) and it goes on to some specific point.
There are still some other terms that you need to know but we will get to them later.
